To the Social Worker

March is Social Worker Appreciation Month.

This got me thinking. How do you recognize one of the most overworked and underappreciated professions in the world? How to recognize the people with the biggest hearts in the world? Initially my browser took me to the quotes of JFK and Anne Frank.

Both quotes are very true and encapsulate the essence of Social Work.

But then I got to thinking about the true life of a Social Worker.

The folks in the trenches.

Out there seeing what the real world looks like.

Right in the middle of all the action – much of which isn’t the prettiest.

The flowery quotes just weren’t enough to pay homage to the Social Worker balancing an enormous caseload, all the world’s problems, and a mountain of paperwork.

So without further ado:

THANK YOU FOR STICKING IN THERE WHEN THE WORK GETS CRAZY! WE WON’T CALL YOU FRAZZLED WE WILL CALL YOU EXPERIENCED!

THANK YOU FOR TRULY BELIEVING IN WHAT YOU DO! THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU!

THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE FOR YOUR FAMILIES NO MATTER WHAT THEY NEED NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THEY NEED IT!

AND EVEN IF YOUR CO-WORKERS, BOSS, OR FAMILIES DON’T ACKNOWLEDGE IT – SOMEWHERE A KID IS SMILING BECAUSE OF YOU!

THANK YOU FOR BEING SELFLESS – BUT DON’T FORGET TO PRACTICE SELF-CARE! AS WE SAY AT BLUEGRASS, YOU CAN’T POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP!

AND THANK YOU ALL FOR HAVING THE MOST WICKED SENSE OF HUMOR! IN THIS JOB, YOU ARE GONNA NEED IT!

If you see a Social Worker this week, give them a hug and tell them you appreciate them.

To our Social Work staff, we appreciate you and everything you do for our communities!!
